FAQ: Anxy: The Boundaries Issue
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

You’ve already done two Kickstarters, why are you doing another one?

Making a print magazine means making a big commitment up front, both in terms of resources and finances. Printing and shipping are still our biggest bottleneck: together they make up over 60% of our budget each time.

Kickstarter has become our platform of choice, as it helps us secure printing funds up front while we grow organically with your support. We continue to explore alternate strategies, and will keep you updated about memberships, sponsorship opportunities and partner collaborations in the future.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes! But international shipments can sometimes take 6-8 weeks to arrive once they’ve shipped. We’ll keep you up to date when your order is in transit. Also, please be aware of potential customs fees you may be required to pay — see the next FAQ for more.

Will I be charged customs fees when I receive my rewards?

Yes, if you live outside of the US, your rewards may incur customs fees as it enters your country. All fees and import duties are charged once your package reaches its destination country, and Anxy is not responsible for paying these fees. We wish there was a way around these extra costs, and appreciate your understanding.

I’ve never read Anxy before—what should I expect?

The best way to get a sense of Anxy is to read some of the stories we’ve produced. In Anxy No.1, for example, we had an interview with Margaret Atwood, stories from Juli Fraga, Ijeoma Oluo, and a feature on what it’s like when people yell at you all day.

You can find some of the pieces here: https://medium.com/tag/anxy-magazine

Also, here are some of the things other people have said about us.

“If that sounds like heavy reading, it’s not. Anxy is full of surprises, with stories and art that are often amusing.”—San Francisco Chronicle “A deep, illustrative look at what it’s like to have a mental illness in the world today”—HuffPost “Smart design, intelligent visuals and strong writing… more than matches the Kickstarter promises”—MagCulture “Perfectly packaged for its cause”—Magalleria

I just bought a gift pack or a magazine for someone else. How do I make sure it gets to them?

We’ll be asking you for their contact details when the campaign is finished. Just make sure the information you give us is correct, and we’ll do the rest.

Or if you’d prefer, we can choose someone to donate a magazine to on your behalf. We have a long list of nonprofits and interested folks who would love to receive a copy of our latest issue.

I supported your last campaign and I still haven’t gotten my reward, what’s the deal?

You should have gotten your rewards by now—we’ve been in contact with everybody we think was waiting in the last few months to make sure that everything is OK. But if you’re still waiting for something, please let us know at [email protected]. Make sure to include the name and address associated with your Kickstarter account.

When am I going to get my rewards?

The biggest reward you’ll get as soon as you contribute: good vibes and our undying love! As for the more, shall we say, tangible rewards: if you’re in the US, you should receive the magazine by the end of July. We still have to manufacture the totes, pins, and other Anxy swag, so those will arrive a little later. If you’re outside of the US, your magazine should arrive by end of July as well. (Same rules as above apply for international swag shipping.)

Why is Anxy a print magazine?

There are great conversations about mental health, depression, anxiety, self-care—basically all the themes we care deeply about—on the Internet. But they fly by at such a rapid rate, and are surrounded by so much digital junk food, that we often don’t have time to form thoughts about or responses to what we’re reading. We do publish some of our work online, as well as produce a newsletter called Episode, but in general we wanted to create a tactile collection of conversations around these important issues that you could really sit with for months at a time. We believe in the power of a stunning publication that sits on your bedside table, on a bookshelf, or even in your therapist’s waiting room, for months to come.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
